Most of my colleagues choose to concentrate on teaching and extension while some prefer to produce creative work.

As regards creative work, UPV( dominated by people in the sciences ) seems to have little understanding of its significance to the academe and society.  It appears that the University’s optimum basis of academic excellence is the number of research activities and publications that a certain professor has accomplished. Creative work? Uhmmm… it’s the next credential one needs to submit if he or she does not have research or a journal publication. How does the University distinguish creative work from mere public entertainment? or is there such a difference? The University has no answer.

First, of all I’m not really an artist. I’m just trying to imitate some things that artists do.

Now, if this thing exists, I’m having an artist’s postpartum depression.

Creative work is usually compared with child-bearing. Just like women, artists get pregnant with ideas and they also labor really hard just to give birth to a masterpiece, at least to the artist’s eye ( children are always beautiful in the eyes of their mother, as the saying goes ).

When my wife got pregnant, I thought I also developed this thing they called ‘womb-envy’. I suddenly got creative and got my self fixated on 3D modeling. So as my wife had her sleepless nights and vomiting sprees, I had mine, too, in front of my computer. My wife gave birth to our Naya Isabel. I gave birth to M3: si Magz, si Maki kag si Moy, a 10-minute short animation.
